New · NOV 03 Report: DMZ Story Missions may drop solo players into an empty, private lobby on their first attempt

Eurogamer's Sherif Saed reported November 2 that running a Story Mission solo for the first time appeared to spawn him into a lobby with no other squads: he finished the mission without encountering anyone, his Recent Players list stayed empty, and he saw no UAV Towers or SAM Sites activated by other players. Saed stresses Infinity Ward hasn't announced or confirmed this, it could change without notice, and repeat attempts at the same mission are reportedly far less forgiving, more likely dropping players back into normal, populated lobbies. What triggers it, such as a squad-fill setting, is unconfirmed.

New · NOV 03 Known issue: Prestige removes your Stash items but doesn't grant the Prestige Trait

Activision's official Known Issues page for Modern Warfare 4, updated October 30, lists a new DMZ problem distinct from the existing can't-Prestige-at-all bug: some Operators have their required gear and cash removed from the Stash during a Prestige attempt, but never receive the Permanent Prestige Trait they paid for. It's listed as under investigation with no workaround given yet.

New · NOV 03 Known issue: the Information Power Order's Boss Board bug is back

Activision's official Known Issues page, updated October 30, again lists players unable to buy Lieutenant Information from the Boss Board, blocking the Information Power Order — the same symptom the October 23 patch notes had said was fixed. No new patch note explains the regression, and no workaround is listed yet.

New · NOV 02 Reported: an equipped weapon can glitch out and vanish shortly after deploying

Two independent creators, OneAverageDan and TheSpazo, separately report their loaded weapon disappearing or failing to carry over moments after deploying into a DMZ match, leaving them unarmed mid-raid. This is distinct from the already-tracked Free Loadout known issue above: both players say they had deployed with their own loadout, not the Free Loadout option. No official acknowledgment or workaround yet.

New · OCT 31 October 30 patch raises Dynamic Ops cash again to 10,000-20,000, adds a per-step Mission payout, fixes Boss Board Intel purchases

Infinity Ward's official patch notes for an October 30, 2026 update raise DMZ Cash payouts again, a day after the October 29 patch already increased them: Dynamic Operations now pay 10,000 to 20,000 DMZ Cash (up from 5,000-10,000), Side Ops pay 2,000, and a new Mission Step payout of 500 DMZ Cash per step is added. The same update fixes a required item missing from the Broken Resupply Dynamic Operation's marked vehicle, Boss Board Intel sometimes being unbuyable in a way that blocked the Information Power Order, a missing timer and wrong marker text on the Hunt Operator Dynamic Operation, a helmet hit-marker that showed white instead of blue for armor damage, FOB shadow flicker, and an FOB crash caused by spamming knife attacks.

New · OCT 31 Known issue: Activision now lists a general "Matchmaking Quality and Stability" problem

Activision and Infinity Ward's shared known-issues tracker, updated October 29, now lists a "Matchmaking Quality and Stability" entry without further detail or a fix timeline. It isn't scoped to DMZ specifically, but it lands the same week several DMZ creators independently reported Story Mission lobbies swinging between calm and PvP-heavy (see below) with no patch note explaining why, so it may be the same underlying issue.

New · OCT 31 DMZ creators report Story Mission lobbies swinging between calm and PvP-heavy, with no patch note behind it

Multiple DMZ creators, independently of each other, report that how crowded Story Mission deployments feel has been changing day to day since October 28, with no CoD Blog patch note or Activision statement confirming a change either way. Creators TheSpazo, SoraYjy (Bilibili) and CrazyShoot each reported around October 30-31 that Story Mission lobbies felt noticeably calmer and more PvE-like again, similar to launch week, after a stretch where TheGigaDad and others described lobbies getting more PvP-heavy around October 29-30. Insider Gaming, citing a CharlieIntel report, says Infinity Ward quietly changed DMZ matchmaking around October 28-29 to give PvP encounters higher priority regardless of the playstyle a player selects, and to drop players who've already finished a given Story Mission into regular lobbies instead of mission-specific ones — which would explain both the PvP spike creators saw and the calmer spell some reported right after. Infinity Ward hasn't commented, and the October 28-30 patch notes don't mention any matchmaking change. Treat any claim about current DMZ matchmaking as temporary and unofficial until Infinity Ward documents it.

New · OCT 30 October 29 patch raises Dynamic Ops cash, fixes Dog Tag extraction and exfil-helicopter crashes

Infinity Ward's official patch notes for an October 29, 2026 update raise the DMZ Cash paid out for Dynamic Operations, Side Ops, and replaying a Story Mission. The same update fixes several other DMZ issues: Mastery Camo progress not crediting squadmates for actions they took, the Scavenger trait instantly detecting other players on deployment instead of gradually, hostages becoming impossible to pick up after two squads assimilate into one, a missing interaction prompt at Lieutenant Tower side ops, players being able to extract with or store a disconnected teammate's Dog Tag, Encrypted Voice Logs failing to spawn for the Ears Everywhere Order, enemy helicopters crashing into the Exfil helicopter during extraction and killing players aboard, and several stuck-terrain and vehicle-overlap spots near Hajin's map edges. The patch notes also flag a caveat on the October 28 fix for the Level 37 3-Plate Armor Vest reward: it only applies to players who hadn't yet reached Level 37 when it shipped, so anyone who already passed that level still doesn't have the item, and Infinity Ward says a remedy for them is in progress.

New · OCT 29 October 28 patch adds a cooldown to Possum: no self-revive near your killers or within 4 minutes of dying

Infinity Ward's official patch notes for an October 28, 2026 update rework the Warfighter capstone trait Possum, which previously let a fully-killed Operator self-revive into Last Stand once per match with no restriction. Possum can no longer trigger while the squad that killed you is still nearby, or until 4 minutes have passed since your death, with both the range and the cooldown duration tunable going forward; Infinity Ward said the trait was being used as a combat mechanic rather than the survival mechanic it was designed to be. The same update fixes two related bugs: Possum reviving a player who had abandoned their Operator, leaving them stuck unplayable, and a black screen that could occur when a full squad wiped while one member was holding Possum in reserve. DMZ creators streaming the day after the update, among them SiNisterFPS and Be3z, flagged the Possum change as live in their matches. One of them also called matchmaking fixed, but no patch note or press report backs that yet, so treat the existing solo-matchmaking caveats as still in effect until Infinity Ward says otherwise.

New · OCT 29 October 28 patch fixes 3D Printer deploy issues, disappearing weapon drops, and Order ping markers

The same October 28, 2026 update that reworked Possum also lists further DMZ fixes in Infinity Ward's official patch notes: an issue causing 3D Printer crafting to fail or misbehave on deployment, weapon drops that could vanish from the ground before being picked up, the 3-Plate Armor Vest reward not granting correctly at DMZ Level 37, Airbase Access Card upgrade issues, and DMZ Order mission objective ping markers pointing to the wrong spot. The patch also closes more unspecified DMZ exploits and, across all modes including DMZ, cuts dive velocity by 23% to curb a sprint-jump exploit.

New · OCT 29 Infinity Ward cracking down on DMZ item-duplication exploits: stash corrections, bans possible

Infinity Ward has confirmed it is taking enforcement action against DMZ accounts that abuse item-duplication exploits, calling it a violation of the game's Terms of Service. Reported penalties range from correcting a player's stash by removing duplicated items up to temporary bans or full account termination. The October 25, 2026 launch patch notes already list a brief "Closed various DMZ exploits" line without naming a method, and a Chinese-language creator separately reported stashes being wiped of duplicated weapons and cash around October 28. No duplication method is described here, and none should be used — it risks a ban.

New · OCT 28 Known issue: picking the Free Loadout can spawn you into DMZ with no weapons equipped

Activision and Infinity Ward's shared known-issues tracker lists a bug where some players who select the Free Loadout at deployment load into their DMZ match completely unarmed. It's listed as under investigation, with no workaround or fix timeline given yet. This tracker runs separately from Activision's public Known Issues page, which as of October 28 lists only the Prestige and Xbox-on-PC launch-button issues already covered above.

New · OCT 26 October 25 patch fixes a Story Mission skip, an Overflow Stash deploy bug, and nerfs Drill Charge damage against Colossus

Infinity Ward's official patch notes for an October 25, 2026 update list another round of DMZ fixes: players could skip the Hospital Elevator objective during the Operation Critical Extraction Story Mission, a Sedan could be missing from its marked spot on the Tac-Map, enemy AI could clip through the Crashed Drone, the Last Stand minimap icon displayed oversized, and buying a saved Build made from a modified Blueprint charged the full price of the original Blueprint rather than the Build's own cost. The update also stops players from deploying while items remain in their Overflow Stash, requiring Operators to clear it first, fixes further issues in the Breaking New Ground onboarding mission, and closes more unspecified DMZ exploits. On the balance side, Drill Charge damage against the Commander boss Colossus has been decreased.

New · OCT 24 Fixed: disposable parachutes now survive 3 jumps, and gas masks no longer break instantly in radiation

Infinity Ward's official launch patch notes confirm two durability fixes that change how DMZ's protective gear behaves: disposable 3D-printed parachutes now last for 3 uses instead of breaking after one (or breaking inconsistently), and gas masks, including durable variants, no longer degrade and fail almost immediately once you're inside a radiation zone such as the Haneul Nuclear Reactor's cloud.

New · OCT 24 Further fixes land for FOB tracking, Bounty progress, and Lieutenant Hunt visibility

Infinity Ward's official patch notes list a further batch of DMZ fixes: Lieutenant intel purchases from the Boss Board now correctly update the tracked DMZ Order, FOB Upgrade Challenges track consistently, several Bounty-tracking issues are resolved, and a bug that showed other squads' Lieutenant Hunt progress as your own is fixed. Smaller fixes cover an inaccurate "under 8 minutes" timer shown for a Dynamic Operation requirement and a description mismatch on the Numb the Pain / Numb the Pain Pro trait.

New · OCT 24 UAV Towers can now be stolen back from the squad that activated them

Infinity Ward's official patch notes now confirm this change, listed under "Recently Updated" for the October 23, 2026 patch: a squad can capture a UAV Tower an enemy squad already activated, ending the old behavior where whichever team got there first could lock down permanent, map-wide UAV coverage for the rest of the match. Players had called the old behavior "oppressive," and the fix is going over well.

New · OCT 23 Known issue: some players can't Prestige an Operator in DMZ despite meeting requirements

Activision's official Known Issues page for Modern Warfare 4 confirms some players can't trigger an Operator Prestige in DMZ even after meeting the cash and gear requirements, on all platforms. It's listed as under investigation. As a workaround, Activision suggests sticking to Rare weapons with exactly three attachment slots — players who succeeded report doing the same, while some stuck players had weapons carrying four or more attachments equipped.

New · OCT 23 Known issue: Xbox app on PC can be missing the button to launch Campaign or DMZ

Activision's official Known Issues page confirms some players on the Xbox app for PC see no button to launch Campaign or DMZ from COD HQ after installing the game, even though Multiplayer launches normally. It's listed as under investigation. Activision suggests installing the "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 - Content Pack 1" before launching, and checking that your Microsoft account hasn't hit its 10-device activation limit.

New · OCT 23 A second DMZ patch on October 21 adds more fixes: Dog Tag Case error, NK Wilderness infil deaths, PC Heartbeat Sensor slowdown

A day after its first DMZ Early Access patch, Infinity Ward's official launch patch notes list a further round of DMZ fixes addressed October 21, 2026: an error that could occur when opening the Dog Tag Case, the Toxic Intercept Dynamic Op incorrectly failing right after its Defend the Bomb objective was completed, a PC performance drop while holding a Heartbeat Sensor with a weapon equipped, enemy AI running over players during infil specifically in the NK Wilderness area, Dynamic Operations text rendering incorrectly at the Larger and Largest Menu Text sizes, low-resolution Orders reward icons in the End Game Report, and some unintended voice lines playing during the Breaking New Ground mission.

New · OCT 22 Day-one patch fixes 19 DMZ bugs: XP display, squad Commander credit, soft locks, AI glitches

Infinity Ward's October 20, 2026 DMZ Early Access patch, timed just ahead of the October 23 full launch, fixes 19 DMZ issues: an After Action Report bug that could show 0 XP after a player's first match, squadmates missing out on Commander-kill XP and King Slayer Calling Card credit, double completion credit on Story Missions, a soft lock from selling starter gear or dismissing an Active Duty Operator who had it equipped before your first deployment, several Breaking New Ground and Dynamic Operations objective bugs, a 3D Printer Untrack Recipe crash, enemy AI running players over during infil, and Operators getting stuck in Hajin's rocks, among other fixes.

New · OCT 22 DMZ server crashes cost players their loot — Activision details what a crash actually costs you

IGN first reported early-access players losing loot to DMZ server problems on October 22. Activision has since confirmed the crashes, which began around October 21, and detailed exactly what a mid-deployment disconnect costs: players keep the equipment they deployed with, their account progression, and any loot already extracted to the FOB from an earlier run, and only lose whatever they picked up during the specific deployment that crashed. That's less severe than a full loot wipe, but the crashes themselves are still happening, so this is a loss-limiting fix rather than confirmation the crashes are resolved.

New · OCT 22 Report: some DMZ spawns drop players in the middle of a road

Eurogamer reports that some DMZ deployments spawn players directly in the middle of a road, where they can be run over before they have a chance to move. Infinity Ward's official patch notes confirm a related known issue remains open as of the October 23, 2026 update: enemy AI cars can move without a driver or get stuck, despite "prospective fixes" already released for it. The October 20 and 21 patches each targeted enemy AI vehicles running players over on infil, with the October 21 fix specifically scoped to the NK Wilderness area, so this looks like the same underlying vehicle-AI issue resurfacing rather than a separate spawn-placement bug.

Seasons & Roadmap

New · OCT 30 Season 1 DMZ detailed: X01 Black Site with a sealed Deep Vault, new bosses, and a Battle Tank Threat Briefing

Call of Duty's official Season 1 blog, posted October 28, finally spells out what DMZ gets when Season 1 goes live on November 6, 2026 at 00:00 ET (21:00 PT on November 5). The headline addition is X01, a Black Site in a former Russian facility on the edge of Hajin that North Korean forces now hold: a dim, multi-floor maze of tunnels and chambers around a weapons assembly line, with cargo bays and vehicle depots, underground labs and production lines, and a sealed Deep Vault at the bottom. It's guarded by the 100 Spirits faction plus "stronger, more brutal" enemies the blog keeps classified, and as the facility starts closing off extraction points you have to complete the required steps to escape. Ghost is the Watcher handing out a new run of DMZ Orders built around it. New bosses: Lieutenants Tae-Hyun ("Knuckle") and Chol-Min ("The Wrench"), and The Captain, a Juggernaut Commander with an elite guard; a second, autonomous patrolling Commander is teased but not named (creator TheGigaDad calls it a Wheelson, which the blog doesn't confirm). Two Threat Briefing events pay out for boss parts: take down a North Korean main battle tank in Hajin and extract one of its parts per deployment, or collect The Captain's helmet sections in X01, with the whole squad credited when one member exfils with a part. A Resupply Run event has you collect specific items across POIs and trade them for high-value gear such as Self Revives and 3-Plate Carriers. At the FOB, a new Battle Pass and Store station sits beside the Survival Kit station, the Vendor sells extra weapons and gear for DMZ Cash to Season 1 BlackCell owners, and 3D Printer changes are listed but still classified. X01's new equipment, enemies, and the exact contents of the Deep Vault haven't been revealed yet.

Season 1 now dated: November 6, 2026

Call of Duty's official roadmap, posted on its X account on October 14, now pins Modern Warfare 4's Season 1 to Friday, November 6, 2026, two weeks after the October 23 launch. That's also when Warzone begins folding in Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression and when the Vault Edition's bundled BlackCell season becomes usable, and the official October 28 Season 1 blog has since laid out the DMZ content: the X01 Black Site, new bosses, and new events.

Infinity Ward won't yet commit to DMZ's long-term support

Asked directly in its October 9 Reddit AMA, Infinity Ward said it's too early for "sweeping commitments" on how long DMZ will be actively supported after launch. The studio added it has been building the mode for years, already has post-launch plans in testing for early seasons, and will shape what comes next around community feedback once DMZ is actually live.

Season 1's new DMZ location now has a name: X01

A hands-on report on the DMZ Deep Dive first said Season 1 would add a new location in the style of the original DMZ's Building 21, with Season 2 expanding Hajin further with additional areas. Infinity Ward has since put a name to the Season 1 addition, X01, in an October 9 Reddit AMA, saying only that it's coming "real soon" without a firm date or description. Separately, Insider Gaming reports unconfirmed claims of a small, PvP-focused, chaotic map (which it spells XO1) matching that Building 21 comparison, but stresses the detail isn't officially confirmed. The official October 28 Season 1 blog has now detailed X01 as an enclosed Black Site on the edge of Hajin arriving November 6; see the Season 1 entry above. Whether it plays as the PvP-heavy map Insider Gaming described is still unconfirmed.

New · OCT 24 The Grid's Extreme-rated tech complex has a name: Netshin Tech Complex

Launch-week guides now put a name to the Extreme-rated tech complex Infinity Ward's DMZ Deep Dive said sits inside The Grid: Netshin Tech Complex. Individual Threat Level ratings confirmed for key Hajin POIs

Infinity Ward's DMZ Deep Dive assigns specific Threat Level ratings to named landmarks rather than one blanket rating per POI: the 14th Political Prison is High on the surface but Critical inside its Citadel, Chang-san Air Base is Critical above ground and Extreme in its underground bunker, and The Grid is Critical overall with an Extreme-rated tech complex inside it. The Haneul Nuclear Reactor also carries a spreading radioactive cloud that requires protective gear and a gas mask to survive.

WMD plot revealed: secret bunkers hide chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons

The October 4 "DMZ Worldbuilder" trailer laid out a concrete WMD plot for Hajin: hidden underground military complexes beneath the city hold stockpiles of chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons left over from before the meltdown. North Korean forces are pushing back into the radioactive zone to recover that arsenal, and Operators are sent in on an off-the-books mission to find enemy combatants and keep the weapons out of North Korea's hands, scavenging gear from the contaminated terrain along the way.

New · OCT 21 Trait Points confirmed to come from successful exfils and Dog Tag level-ups

Xbox Wire's official DMZ starter guide confirms exactly how Trait Points are earned: every successful exfil grants one, and leveling up an Operator's Dog Tag through DMZ XP automatically banks another. Popcorn Lethals, Pack Rat, and Deep Breath hadn't been named before, though this list doesn't repeat two Majors named earlier, Investor and Air Superiority, so it may not be fully exhaustive. Bounty Payouts also scale with level, rising to a 10% bonus at Level 30, 50% at Level 50, and a full 100% bonus at Level 70, where players also gain 18 extra Stash slots.

Operator Prestige also demands specific gear tiers, and resets your Trait Points

A Dot Esports guide fills in what Operator Prestige costs beyond cash: Prestige 1 calls for two Rare-or-better weapons with 3 attachment slots, a Rare plate carrier, a Rare backpack, and four Rare 3D Printer Ingredients; Prestige 2 raises that to Epic-rarity gear and 4-slot weapons; and Prestige 3 onward asks for Legendary-rarity gear, with the same requirement repeating on every Prestige after that. The guide also says Prestiging wipes an Operator's spent Trait Points back to zero, so you must climb back to 18 before Prestiging again, and that an Operator can't Prestige while MIA or awaiting rescue.

Boss Board sells intel on Lieutenants and Commanders, located via Upload Stations

Infinity Ward's DMZ progression trailer put names to specific traits for the first time: Warfighter-tree traits LT Hunter (extra paid intel when activating a Lieutenant Tower), Killing Spree (extends active effect durations after kills), and Possum (a once-per-match self-revive into Last Stand with health restored), plus Survivalist-tree traits Metabolism (slowly regenerates health lost to a tourniquet) and Die Hard (stronger Last Stand buffs, including an automatic exfil call-in and infinite bleed-out time). The trailer also teased unnamed vehicle-focused traits and said Permanent Prestige Traits are expected to be the most powerful of all, with full details still saved for a later FOB-focused deep dive.

FOB doubles as a social hangout modeled on CoD: WWII's Headquarters

GameSpot's hands-on reporting describes the FOB as deliberately designed to double as a social space along the lines of Call of Duty: WWII's Headquarters hub, letting squads meet up, chat, and test-fire loadouts together between deployments rather than just serving as a menu screen.

Operator Prestige confirmed, with Traits that survive the reset

Infinity Ward's official FOB Deep Dive blog has now detailed Operator Prestige in full: each Operator can earn three Permanent Prestige Traits, and each Prestige costs more than the last, 200,000 DMZ Cash for the first, 300,000 for the second, and 500,000 for the third, on top of higher-rarity gear requirements. Operators can keep Prestiging past the third trait, and from the fourth Prestige onward you choose whether to keep your current Permanent Trait or swap in the newly offered one.

Windows Central's hands-on with DMZ during Early Access found a dedicated truce flag players can raise from the menu wheel to signal non-hostile intent to other squads, alongside the existing proximity voice chat. The same preview found that completing certain missions can reward an in-place exfil, letting a squad extract on the spot instead of reaching a helicopter pickup point or using a Fulton balloon or flare.

Infinity Ward's official launch-week progression blog confirms that shared weapon camo challenges are tuned tougher specifically for DMZ: the Han 86's Smoke camo needs 75 kills in DMZ versus just 20 in Multiplayer, with other camos like Stormwave (125 kills) and Red (50 kills without taking damage) carrying their own DMZ-specific thresholds. DMZ's own Completionist camos ask for 100 eliminations in a single deployment for Gold, 100 headshots for Assault Rifles' Platinum, and 50 double kills for Assault Rifles' Harmonic Break.

Four kills trigger Wanted status; Gunsmith guns cap at 5 attachments, field guns at 8

Infinity Ward's official FOB Deep Dive puts a hard number on the Wanted system for the first time: racking up four player kills makes an Operator Wanted, and that status persists across deployments until it's paid off or lost on death. Weapon unlocks carry over from Multiplayer and Warzone, but DMZ mastery camos don't

Infinity Ward told Eurogamer that core weapon progression, meaning unlocking guns and their attachments, is shared across Multiplayer, Warzone, and DMZ, so a weapon leveled up in one mode arrives already unlocked in the others. DMZ's own Chiral, Ripple Tide, and Helio mastery camos are the exception and still only progress on a weapon that's actually being used inside DMZ.

New · OCT 22 Fixed: Possum now has a cooldown and can't trigger near your killers

Early-access players criticized the Warfighter tree's Possum trait, which let an Operator self-revive into Last Stand with full health once per match even after being fully killed, with no warning cue, often turning a fight around out of nowhere. Infinity Ward responded in its October 28, 2026 patch: Possum can no longer trigger while the squad that killed you is still nearby, or until 4 minutes have passed since your death, with both the range and the cooldown tunable going forward. The studio said the trait was being used as a combat mechanic rather than the survival mechanic it was designed to be.

Seasons & Roadmap

Three national landmasses — Russian landmass now dated to Season 2

Hajin spans three landmasses covering South Korean, North Korean, and Russian territory, and each country feels different, with its own AI factions, vehicles, and voice lines. The westernmost stretch of the launch map belongs to the former North Korean side, with the rest of South Korea's territory making up the remainder. Infinity Ward's "From The Ward" development series and a Dexerto map breakdown now both pin the Russian landmass to Season 2 specifically, a firmer date than co-studio head Mark Grigsby's vaguer "later seasons" comment from July 2026.

Vault Edition bundles a dedicated DMZ Deployment Bonus

The Vault Edition includes the Hostile Alliance Operator Pack, Special Forces Operator Pack, Signature Weapon Collection, a full season of BlackCell, and a separate DMZ Deployment Bonus on top of the base game. Infinity Ward's official FOB Deep Dive has now detailed that bonus: it grants a third Active Duty Operator slot right away plus a Deployment Kit. Everyone else starts with two Operator slots and has to unlock the third one by climbing the DMZ Level track, specifically at Level 15, per Infinity Ward's official progression blog.

FAQ

Is the new DMZ free to play?

No — unlike the original DMZ, which was free alongside Warzone 2.0, the new DMZ is a core mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and requires buying the game (69.99 USD Standard Edition).

When does MW4 DMZ come out?

DMZ launches on October 23, 2026, the same day as Modern Warfare 4 itself. It is available from day one as the game's third pillar alongside Campaign and Multiplayer.

How big is the Hajin Exclusion Zone compared to Al Mazrah?

Hajin is bigger than Al Mazrah and is the largest map Infinity Ward has ever built. It spans three landmasses across the Russia-North Korea-South Korea tri-border, split into nine regions.

What is the FOB in MW4 DMZ?

The Forward Operating Base is your persistent, walkable hub between deployments. It houses your stash, the 3D Printer crafting station, weapon vendors, a firing range, bounty boards, and your Operator roster, and it upgrades as you progress.

What happens when you die in MW4 DMZ?

Your Operator goes missing in action rather than being wiped. You can pay in-game cash at the FOB to send a rescue team and recover them with their trait progression intact — the cost scales with the Operator's level and repeated rescues.

Does MW4 DMZ have proximity chat?

Yes. Proximity voice returns with distance-based falloff, directional audio, and environmental reverb, so nearby squads can negotiate truces, bluff, or set up ambushes. It can be muted.

What is the Wanted system in MW4 DMZ?

Killing rival Operators outside of self-defense builds notoriety and places a bounty on you. Other squads can pay for intel to track you, and extracting a wanted player's dog tags pays out big — but you can also pay off your own bounty.

What platforms is MW4 DMZ on?

PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam, Battle.net, Xbox app), and Nintendo Switch 2 — everywhere Modern Warfare 4 is sold.

Is there a PvE-only or solo mode in MW4 DMZ?

No. Infinity Ward confirmed in its October 9 Reddit AMA that DMZ stays PvPvE with no PvE-only playlist planned, calling PvP the mode's "bread and butter." You can play alone by turning off squad fill, but there's no dedicated solo-only queue and no guarantee your lobby is free of full squads.

Will the Hajin map come to Warzone too?

Yes — Activision officially confirmed at Call of Duty: NEXT that Hajin is coming to Warzone as its new Battle Royale destination with Modern Warfare 4's Season 1, launching alongside a separate new Resurgence map called Zodiac. DMZ has the map exclusively at the October 23 launch, and no carry-over of MW2 DMZ progress has been announced.

How does Gunsmith work in MW4 DMZ?

Gunsmith is tied to the DMZ Cash you earn during deployments rather than the original beta's insured weapon slots and cooldown timers. You spend that cash on weapons and attachments at the FOB, and stronger attachments like suppressors, drum mags, thermal optics, and long-range scopes cost more. Gunsmith can also build weapons entirely from scratch using Weapon Manuals extracted from the zone, while a separate Vendor station sells a rotating daily selection of ready-made weapons and gear.

What is the Threat Level (AI star) system in MW4 DMZ?

Infinity Ward calls it the Threat Level system: a five-tier scale (Low, Medium, High, Critical, Extreme) that rises the longer you stay in a firefight with AI and draws in tougher reinforcements, up to Lieutenants, Commander bosses, tanks, and drone swarms. Stealth kills with melee weapons, throwing knives, or suppressed shots let you disengage and bring your threat level back down.

What are Story Missions, Dynamic Ops, Side Ops, and Free Roam in MW4 DMZ?

They're the four ways to spend a deployment: Story Missions push DMZ's narrative and group everyone chasing the same objective, Dynamic Operations hand out randomized objectives on drop-in, Side Ops are smaller tasks like repairing vehicles or climbing radio towers, and Free Roam just lets you loot, fight, or mess with other squads freely.

Does MW4 DMZ have a special spectator camera?

Reportedly yes — when your Operator is eliminated, spectating a teammate is said to use a gritty bodycam-style view made specifically for DMZ rather than a standard spectator cam, alongside night vision gear for navigating Hajin's darkest areas. This hasn't been detailed on the official CoD Blog yet.

Can I play MW4 DMZ through Xbox Game Pass?

No. Modern Warfare 4 isn't coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch — Xbox has told subscribers the game won't join the service until Holiday 2027. Since DMZ is bundled inside the full game rather than sold separately, you'll need to buy Modern Warfare 4 to play it before then.

Do Double XP tokens work in DMZ?

Yes. Infinity Ward confirmed to Dot Esports that Double XP tokens apply to DMZ deployments, and they now only count down while you're actually in a match, so sitting in menus, matchmaking, or the FOB no longer wastes your boosted time.

Does MW4 DMZ have anti-cheat protection against wallhacks?

Yes. Call of Duty's official account confirmed a RICOCHET Anti-Cheat feature called Server Culling, which withholds an enemy's position data from your game client until you'd actually be able to see them, so wallhack software has nothing to leak. It covers DMZ and every other launch mode, plus new maps added from Season 1 onward.

Does DMZ have its own mastery camos?

Yes. DMZ has three dedicated mastery camos, separate from the multiplayer and Warzone sets: Chiral, Ripple Tide, and Helio. Infinity Ward's official progression blog gives exact requirements: Chiral needs 2,500 kills against Tier 3-or-higher enemies, Ripple Tide needs 50 deployments extracting two Lieutenant dog tags each, and Helio needs 25,000 kills with Legendary-rarity weapons on a max-level Operator, unlocked in that order.

Is ray tracing supported in DMZ on PC?

Yes. Activision's PC tech specs blog confirms ray traced reflections, shadows, and lighting run in DMZ at launch, right alongside Campaign and Multiplayer, on top of a 90 FPS target at recommended specs.

What is DMZ's WMD plot about?

The October 2026 "DMZ Worldbuilder" trailer confirmed that secret bunkers beneath Hajin hold stockpiles of chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons left over from before the meltdown, and that North Korea is pushing back into the zone to recover them. Operators deploy on an off-the-books mission to find enemy forces and keep that arsenal out of North Korea's hands.

What are the major POIs on the Hajin map?

Infinity Ward's official DMZ Deep Dive names 13 major landmarks: the 14th Political Prison, Chang-san Air Base, Deadtown, Imjin Farmland, Cheongun Village, Mirae General Hospital, Cheonwang Peak Array, Haneul Nuclear Reactor, NuriGO Mall, The Grid, Songdo Wharf, Wolves Stadium, and Hajin River Heights, plus dozens of smaller named locations.

What's in the After Action Report in MW4 DMZ?

Every deployment ends with a four-part After Action Report: a Report of what you extracted, an F-to-S++ Rating based on objectives, combat, and looting, a Level section tracking your DMZ Player Level and 18-tier Dog Tag rank, and a Summary of completed DMZ Orders and rewards.

What vehicles can you drive in MW4 DMZ?

Confirmed vehicles include ground rides like the Grizzly, the Aston Martin-based Dreadnought SUV, the Polaris Dagor A1 buggy, light combat trucks, and cargo trucks, plus RHIB boats and combat helicopters. A dedicated heavy-lift aircraft, the Monarch, is used for extraction only, and all vehicles need repairs and refueling at Gas Stations.

How many POIs does the Hajin map have?

Infinity Ward's 13 named major landmarks sit on top of 60 further minor points of interest, including smaller named spots and generic Locations of Interest like gas stations, police stations, UAV towers, and clinics, for 73 mapped POIs in total.

Is there Prestige for Operators in MW4 DMZ?

Yes. Each Operator can earn three Permanent Prestige Traits, with each Prestige costing more than the last, 200,000 DMZ Cash for the first, 300,000 for the second, and 500,000 for the third, plus higher-rarity gear. You can keep Prestiging after that, and from the fourth Prestige on you choose whether to keep your current Permanent Trait or swap in a new one.

What are some example Operator Traits in DMZ?

Infinity Ward's progression trailer named the first specific traits: Warfighter-tree traits LT Hunter (extra paid intel from Lieutenant Towers), Killing Spree (longer active-effect durations after kills), and Possum (a once-per-match self-revive into Last Stand), plus Survivalist-tree traits Metabolism (regenerates tourniquet health loss over time) and Die Hard (stronger Last Stand buffs). Permanent Prestige Traits are teased as the most powerful of all, with full details still coming in a later FOB-focused deep dive.

Can you pay to spawn in a vehicle in MW4 DMZ?

Yes. The official DMZ progression trailer confirmed five insertion options priced in DMZ Cash: a free on-foot drop-in, a Polaris Dagor A1 buggy for 5,000, an armored Light Tactical Vehicle for 25,000, a helicopter for 50,000, and a top-tier air vehicle for 100,000. The LTV and helicopter options also require completing a separate story mission before you can buy them.

What are the three Operator trait trees called in MW4 DMZ?

Infinity Ward's DMZ progression trailer names them Warfighter, Survivalist, and Scout. Trait Points earned in a match are tied to the specific Operator who earned them and get spent across those three trees, letting you build dedicated PvP, stealth, looting, or recovery characters.

When does the Russian landmass arrive in Hajin?

Infinity Ward's "From The Ward" development series and a Dexerto map breakdown now pin it to Season 2 specifically, a firmer date than co-studio head Mark Grigsby's vaguer "later seasons" comment from July 2026. The launch map covers North and South Korean territory only, with the former North Korean side making up the westernmost stretch.

What do Lieutenant Hunts reward in MW4 DMZ?

Taking down a Lieutenant pays out DMZ Cash, XP, and loot, and GameSpot's hands-on coverage says it also carries a chance to drop a rare key that unlocks a special, higher-value loot room elsewhere on Hajin.

Does weapon progression carry over between DMZ, Multiplayer, and Warzone?

Yes for the core weapon unlocks and attachments — Infinity Ward told Eurogamer that progression is shared across all three modes. DMZ's own Chiral, Ripple Tide, and Helio mastery camos are the exception and only progress on a weapon actually used within DMZ.

What is an "action extraction shooter"?

It's the new label Infinity Ward is using for MW4's DMZ, meant to signal a faster, more combat-focused pace than the original DMZ beta's slower looting runs.

How many Operator Traits are there in MW4 DMZ, and how many can I use?

Each of the three trees, Warfighter, Scout, and Survivalist, holds 22 Traits: six fixed Major Traits plus 16 randomized Minor ones, for 66 Traits total. Even so, an Operator can only ever have up to 18 Trait Points spent at once.

How many Operator slots do I start with, and how do I get more?

Everyone starts with two Active Duty Operator slots and unlocks a third at DMZ Level 15. Vault Edition owners get that third slot immediately as part of their DMZ Deployment Bonus, plus a separate Deployment Kit itemized as two Weapon Insurance Contracts, two Operator Rescue Beacons, two Fulton Drop Markers, two Medium Backpacks, and two 2-Plate Carriers.

What are the Resources and Ingredients used for 3D Printer crafting?

Common Resources, Synthetics, Electronics, Chemicals, and Metals, are broken down automatically from items you loot. Rarer 3D Printer Ingredients, Binding Catalyst, Biomaterials, Detonators, and Control Units, only show up in specific parts of Hajin, and the printer itself hints at where to find what you need.

How many kills does it take to become Wanted in MW4 DMZ?

Four player kills trigger Wanted status, and it carries over between deployments until you pay it off or lose it on death.

What does the Boss Board do, and how do I find Lieutenants in MW4 DMZ?

The Boss Board sells intel on named Lieutenants and Commander bosses for DMZ Cash, but only once you've completed the challenges that unlock each piece of intel, and a purchased tip only lasts one deployment. In the field, you track down Lieutenants by activating Upload Stations scattered around Hajin rather than relying on bought intel alone.

Can I use my beta or Vault Edition weapon blueprints in DMZ?

Yes, once for free. Dedicated weapon blueprints you already own, whether earned in the MW4 beta or bundled with the Vault Edition, can be equipped in DMZ one time at no cost. Losing that weapon burns the free use, and you'd then have to buy the same blueprint back at a reduced DMZ Cash price.

What happens to an Operator's gear when they're rescued from MIA?

They keep every Trait they've earned, but not their gear — the loadout and items they were carrying when they went missing are gone for good, per Xbox Wire's official feature breakdown.

Can I upgrade the 3D Printer itself, not just craft with it?

Yes. Upgrading the 3D Printer station with materials gathered in Hajin improves the rest of the FOB too: a bigger shared Bank and Stash, cheaper MIA recovery costs, and a stronger daily selection at the Vendor.

Will DMZ keep getting new content after launch?

Infinity Ward hasn't promised anything long-term yet. In its October 9 Reddit AMA, the studio said it's too early for "sweeping commitments" on how long DMZ will be supported, though it says post-launch seasons are already in testing and future plans will depend on community feedback after launch.

Are there more named Operator Traits beyond the Major Traits already revealed?

Yes. A Dot Esports breakdown names further traits on top of the ones Infinity Ward has officially confirmed: Warfighter's Adrenaline Burst, Equipment Professional, and Adaptive Restock; Scout's Hostile Looter, Container Looter, and Overwatch; and Survivalist's Faster Revive, Consumable Duration, Impact Smokes, and Numb the Pain.

When does Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 start?

Friday, November 6, 2026, two weeks after the October 23 launch, per Call of Duty's official roadmap posted October 14. That's also when Warzone starts integrating Modern Warfare 4 content and when the Vault Edition's bundled BlackCell season unlocks, but Infinity Ward hasn't yet said what Season 1 adds to DMZ specifically.

Does every Operator get a self-revive in MW4 DMZ?

Yes. Infinity Ward confirmed in an October 14 r/DMZ Reddit AMA that the Tourniquet mechanic doubles as a built-in self-revive: using it after being downed gets an Operator back up, but caps their max health at 100 instead of 150 until they heal at a medkit, which also resets Tourniquet for the next down. Other healing items can refill health in the meantime but won't restore Tourniquet itself.

What do I need besides cash to Prestige an Operator in MW4 DMZ?

Specific gear tiers on top of the cash cost: Prestige 1 needs two Rare-or-better weapons with 3 attachment slots, a Rare plate carrier, a Rare backpack, and four Rare 3D Printer Ingredients; Prestige 2 raises that to Epic-rarity gear and 4-slot weapons; and Prestige 3 onward requires Legendary-rarity gear, repeating for every later Prestige. Prestiging also resets your spent Trait Points to zero, so you have to earn all 18 back before Prestiging again, and your Operator can't be MIA or awaiting rescue when you do it.

Can I choose which Permanent Prestige Trait I get?

Not for your first three. Each of an Operator's first three Permanent Prestige Traits is drawn at random from the trait pool. Only from the fourth Prestige onward do you get a choice, between keeping your current three Permanent Traits or swapping one out for the newly rolled one.

What do you unlock as you level up in DMZ?

Infinity Ward's official progression blog maps out concrete rewards across the DMZ Level 1-70 track: Operator skins for Reece at Level 4, Coffey at Level 9, Simone at Level 15 (plus a free bonus Operator slot), and Hector at Level 19. Bounty Payouts also scale up, with a 10% bonus at Level 30, 50% at Level 50, and a full 100% bonus at Level 70, where you also gain 18 extra Stash slots.

Are DMZ's camo challenges the same as Multiplayer's?

No, DMZ versions tend to ask for more. The Han 86's Smoke camo needs 75 kills in DMZ versus 20 in Multiplayer, and other weapons carry their own DMZ-specific thresholds. DMZ's Completionist camos separately ask for 100 eliminations in one deployment for Gold, 100 headshots for Assault Rifles' Platinum, and 50 double kills for Assault Rifles' Harmonic Break.

How do I actually earn Trait Points in MW4 DMZ?

Xbox Wire's official starter guide confirms two ways: every successful exfil grants one Trait Point, and leveling up your Operator's Dog Tag through DMZ XP automatically banks another. You spend them at the FOB's Operators station, and once a Trait is chosen it's permanent for that Operator.

Can a DMZ squad have more than 3 players?

Yes, temporarily. Squads deploying solo or in a party are capped at 3, but a GameRant launch-week guide confirms two squads that meet in Hajin and agree to team up can merge into a single 4-player squad for the rest of that deployment.

Planning ahead: when the zone opens, DMZTracker ships its toolset with it — Hajin mission tracker with squad codes, FOB planner, and a crafting calculator for the 3D printer. Support the project to help make that happen.
